24 May 2022: Just one week after the Trinity Hill’s Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay 2020 was awarded 3 Trophies at London’s International Wine Challenge 2022, another Trinity Hill Chardonnay has received an international Gold Medal, this time at the 2022 International Wine and Spirits Challenge. Trinity Hill’s 2020 Single Vineyard 125 Gimblett Chardonnay received 96 points and a Gold Medal at the awards, which took place over two weeks, seeing 99 of the industry’s most renowned and respected wine experts taste wines from over 40 countries.

Trinity Hill’s Single Vineyard wines are crafted from small parcels chosen for their ability to best exhibit unique style and place. The 125 Gimblett vineyard, from which this wine gets its name, is located on 125 Gimblett Road and is in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District. Trinity Hill’s Chief Winemaker Warren Gibson says, “The 125 Gimblett Road vineyard site has a history of making Chardonnay from the early 1980’s being one of the original sites planted on what is now known as the Gimblett Gravels. A replanting over the last 15 years is now paying serious dividends. The site consistently provides perfectly ripe fruit that is gently transformed into delicious, complex and powerful wines that we aim to sit alongside the great Chardonnays of the world.”

The IWSC judges noted of the wine, “A lovely and inviting wine whose crisp, multi-layered palate shows a beautiful balance of smoky, toasty oak over flavours of fleshy yellow and tropical fruits and a preserved lemon zip. Long, concentrated and complex.”

New Zealand producers took home six Gold Medals in total, with Hawke’s Bay acquiring four Gold’s for Chardonnay, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Rebecca Palmer, Wine Buyer at Corney & Barrow comments, “The level of quality seemed consistently higher across the board, and the number of medal-winning wines particularly impressive, in a competition where the bar is high – the IWSC judging process is fair but demanding so achieving a medal is meaningful.”

Trinity Hill Single Vineyard 125 Gimblett Chardonnay 2020 suggested retail $80. Available at trinityhill.com and from discerning wine retailers.
