At the 7th London Wine Competition, held in London on 18 & 19 March 2024, Trinity Hill won a Best In Show by Country, two Gold Medals and three Silver Medals, considered the ultimate seal of approval in the global wine industry. Our Single Vineyard 125 Chardonnay 2022 was awarded Best in Show by Country, Gold Medal, and 95 points by the competition judges. Our Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay 2022 also took home a Gold Medal and 94 points, while our Gimblett Gravels ‘The Gimblett’ 2021, Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2021 and Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2021 were all awarded Silver Medals at the competition. To achieve these awards, Trinity Hill needed high scores in three categories: Quality, Value, and Packaging.

The London Wine Competition aims to recognize and celebrate the wines that consumers actually want to buy, whether from a retail store or off a menu at a restaurant.

What sets the London Wine Competition apart is its judging process. It goes beyond blind tasting to determine medal winners. First, judges evaluate the wine’s label, design, and packaging, assigning a portion of the score based on visual appeal, storytelling effectiveness, and how well the brand’s overall presentation aligns with its price point and perceived value for money.

Winning a London Wine Competition award requires high scores across all three judging areas. Exceptional quality wines might not be considered winners if the price and packaging don’t resonate with consumers. The competition recognizes wines that excel in both quality and marketability.

Scoring system:

Q (Quality Score) + V (Value Score) + P (Package Score) = London Wine Competition Score

Each judging category (Quality, Value, and Package) receives a separate weighted score. These scores are then combined to produce a final score that determines individual awards.

Quality Score: Out of 100

Value Score: Out of 100

Package Score: Out of 100

The London Wine Competition is judged by a panel of leading wine buyers with current commercial buying experience, or wine consultants and experts directly involved in developing new wine brands or purchasing wine for resale. Judges represent a diverse range of channels and disciplines, including multiple retailers, convenience stores, distributors, on-trade groups, casual and fine dining establishments, hospitality, and the travel industry.
