Trinity Hill is very excited to share that our Single Vineyard 125 Gimblett Chardonnay 2022 received a Silver Medal at the 2024 Chardonnay du Monde, an international competition that celebrates the best Chardonnay in the world.
The 31th annual Chardonnay du Monde wine competition was held March 13-15, 2024 at Château des Ravatys, at Saint-Lager in the Burgundy wine region (France).
The Chardonnay du Monde international competition recognises the world’s best Chardonnay wines by awarding them with reliable and representative medals. This competition is based on a single conviction: distinctive marks of quality are the key to real differentiation and therefore enhancing the value of the awarded wines in this highly competitive market where the array of products becomes more vast each day.
The 2024 competition featured 579 wine samples from 33 countries, with 200 international expert judges confirming the results.
The show adhered to optimal tasting conditions, with sensory isolation, the number of samples limited to 20 per panel, and wines tasted at an appropriate pace.
The fruit for the Single Vineyard 125 Gimblett Chardonnay 2022 was hand harvested in our Gimblett Gravels “Tin Shed” vineyard, then gently pressed and the juice fermented with 50% indigenous yeasts in a combination of new 228- and 500-litre French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation was encouraged to soften the acidity and impart further richness. The wine spent 12 months in barrel then a further 6 months in tank on yeast lees building further texture and complexity before being racked and bottled in July 2023 with no fining and minimal filtration.
The wine is rich and complex yet remains focused and composed with outstanding persistence and length of flavour. Stone fruit, citrus, and toasty oak flavours, gentle phenolics. A fine backbone of acidity combines effortlessly to produce a seamless, harmonious palate with a mouthwatering finish.
