As spring graces, us with its presence, our vineyard and winery are bustling with renewed energy and anticipation. This season of growth and renewal brings with it a host of exciting developments for our cherished Chardonnay:
In the Vineyard
Spring has breathed new life into our vineyard. We’re delighted to share that our dedicated viticulture team has wrapped up the crucial pruning phase. This essential step has set the stage for a thriving growing season ahead. Our Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay vines are now beginning their annual budburst, signaling the start of an invigorating growth cycle. With each budding vine, we feel a sense of excitement and optimism for the season to come, as our team continues to nurture these vines with care and expertise.
In the Winery
Meanwhile, inside the winery, the 2024 Chardonnay is making impressive strides. Primary fermentation has wrapped up, and many barrels are now gracefully undergoing secondary malolactic fermentation. The gentle warmth of spring provides the perfect environment for this natural evolution, allowing the wine to develop its full, nuanced character. For those barrels that have completed this process, they are now resting on their lees, adding depth and richness to the Chardonnay, and enhancing its texture with every passing day.
Looking Ahead
As we look toward the coming months, our winemaking team is preparing for the next exciting phase. Each barrel of our 2024 Chardonnay vintage will be carefully assessed to ensure it meets our high standards. Following this evaluation, we will blend our flagship 125 Gimblett Chardonnay, alongside our Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay. This blend will then rest for an additional six months in tank on yeast lees, allowing it to further develop its complexity and texture before it is meticulously racked and bottled.
Spring is a time of vibrant renewal, and we’re thrilled to share this journey with you.
