Trinity Hill and Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand: Commitment to Sustainable Future

Trinity Hill are proud members of the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) program, embracing sustainable practices in both winemaking and grape growing.

Over the past thirty years, Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) has evolved into a comprehensive, independently audited program, now certifying 96% of New Zealand’s vineyard area and approximately 90% of the country’s wine production by volume. This level of participation, from both winegrowers and winemakers, sets SWNZ apart as the only program of its kind in the world.

Trinity Hill is incredibly proud of the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) program, particularly because it has never remained static. Instead, it has continuously adapted to meet the ever-changing demands of the global wine industry. The program focuses on six key areas: Climate Change, Water, Waste, Plant Protection, Soil, and People, ensuring that sustainable practices remain at the core of the industry.

As Fabian Yukich, Chair of New Zealand Winegrowers, said:

“The industry leaders were passionate and innovative. They could see the opportunities for an export-focused wine industry. They knew the importance of sustainability to ensure New Zealand wine would be internationally renowned for its premium reputation. They also believed the way forward was to unite winegrowers and winemakers. Working together would ensure success.”

What has remained constant throughout the evolution of the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) program over the last three decades—and will continue to reassure wine lovers around the world—is New Zealand’s unwavering commitment to a sustainable future, which in turn drives the creation of our unique and distinctive wines.

Let’s raise a glass and celebrate 30 years of sustainability and innovation in New Zealand wine. Here at Trinity Hill, we remain committed to preserving the land and crafting exceptional wines that stand the test of time.
